The National Foreign Trade Council (NFTC) Foundation invites you to attend a breakfast seminar featuring the Her Excellency Anne Anderson, Ambassador of the Republic of Ireland to the U.S., and a panel of experts to examine recent trends and future prospects for investment and innovation policy in Ireland, as well as the implications for the U.S. U.S. firms have invested more in Ireland, one of the most business-friendly economies in Europe, than they have in Brazil, Russia, India and China combined.

Following the onset of its sovereign debt crisis, Ireland distinguished itself from other troubled European countries through austerity policies which stabilized public finances. Growth then came from the private sector, particularly through foreign direct investment (FDI) and large global Irish firms. While the worldwide downturn had a significant impact on Ireland, the Irish economy has rebounded, regaining competitiveness through a focus on the investment climate in order to attract innovative foreign business.

There are significant challenges ahead for the Irish economy. Competition for FDI is fierce, there is a growing debate about international taxation, and government regulations - both domestic and E.U. - threaten Ireland's nimble, adaptable economic model. What can US policymakers learn from the Irish experience?
