NFTC Commends Committee Action on Singapore and Chile

July 17, 2003

Washington, DC – The National Foreign Trade Council applauds the action today by the House Ways and Means and Senate Finance Committees to approve the implementing bills for the US-Chile and US-Singapore Free Trade Agreements. NFTC President Bill Reinsch commended the committees’ leadership and stated that the “approval of the implementing legislation is another important milestone toward the final enactment of these landmark agreements.”  He added that the “NFTC urges Congress to quickly pass these FTAs so these agreements can enter into force and provide benefits to American exporters, workers, farmers and consumers.”

The National Foreign Trade Council is a leading business organization advocating an open, rules-based global trading system. Founded in 1914 by a broad-based group of American companies, the NFTC now serves 350 member companies through its offices in Washington and New York.
