The NFTC believes in the importance of ensuring that trade policies support global efforts to move to a more environmentally friendly future.
To that end, we advocate for policies that focus on:
- Seeking opportunities to enhance trade in clean technologies through tariff elimination and enhanced export promotion,
- Ensuring that carbon border adjustment mechanisms, climate-related tax credits and green steel mechanisms do not result in the implementation of trade-restrictive measures, and
- Increasing awareness of trade and climate efforts by other countries and International Organizations.
Trade and health are inextricably linked. The NFTC will work with private and public sector stakeholders to ensure that global trade policies reflect the lessons learned from COVID-19 and encourage the implementation of best practices, both in the U.S. and at international institutions, to improve health outcomes and address future pandemics.
