Subject: Meeting with Doug Bell, Counselor and Assistant USTR for Trade Policy and Economics

Please join us on Thursday, December 8, 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. for a meeting with Doug Bell, newly appointed Counselor and Assistant USTR for Trade Policy and Economics. Doug will discuss his new portfolio and priority issues.

Doug most recently served for 2.5 years as Director of Trade and Investment at the National Security Council. He is returning to USTR in a position which, among other things, consolidates the positions of AUSTR for Economic Affairs (held by David Walters) and AUSTR for Trade Policy Coordination and Information (held by Carmen Suro Bredie) in an effort to strengthen the coordination of trade policy and economics, according to a USTR spokeswoman.

Before the NSC, Doug was Deputy AUSTR for Southeast Asia and the Pacific, working on the early development of the U.S. strategy for participation in the Trans Pacific Partnership, and the negotiation of the U.S.-Malaysia FTA (before that negotiation was suspended and Malaysia joined the TPP negotiation). As DAUSTR for the Middle East, he was a principal negotiator of the U.S.-Morocco FTA and participated in the development of the Middle East Free Trade Area (MEFTA) Initiative.

This meeting is off the record.

Please RSVP by email to cdittrich@nftc.org or vmyers@nftc.or if you will attend.
