Like the Wizard of Oz behind his curtain, governments pull a few levers and a barrier to trade is transformed into a public health issue.  Scratch the surface, however, and you find faulty science, unattainable risk standards, and less than open regulatory processes.  From rubber duckies to wine to the latest in electronics technology, the list of affected products is a lengthy one and the effect on global trade considerable.

Join the National Foreign Trade Council and other members of its Trade and Risk Regulation Task Force for the release of a research paper detailing this growing strategy for restricting trade and for a panel discussion of the topic from three divergent perspectives – that of the United States, the European Union, and the developing world.

Invited Speakers

William Reinsch, President, National Foreign Trade Council

James Murphy, Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for Agriculture (invited)

Tony Van der haegen, Minister-Counselor, Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Safety and Consumer Affairs, Delegation of the European Commission
