Welcome to NFTC

The National Foreign Trade Council is the premier business organization advocating a rules-based world economy. Founded in 1914 by a group of American companies that supported an open world trading system, the NFTC and its affiliates now serve more than 300 member companies through offices in Washington and New York.

Advancing Global Commerce

The role of America in the world economy and the impact of international trade on the U.S. have never been more important. Leveraging its broad membership, expertise and influence, the NFTC is the only national business organization that exclusively advocates the international and public policy priorities of its members. From international trade, investment, tax, and export finance to human resource management, the NFTC's services and advocacy are a critical link for U.S. companies.

"The National Foreign Trade Council is in a league by itself, and, for those of you who are dues paying members, you get your money’s worth from Bill and the staff. I can say that as one who has needed your help and relied on your help in moving legislation on the Hill, sometimes stopping legislation on the Hill..."

Ambassador Susan C. Schwab

Several years ago I included a rant in this column about the Administration’s visa policies that were causing major problems for NFTC members, among others, trying to operate globally.  In 2003 and 2004 I probably got more complaints about visas than any other single issue.  Companies cited example after example of cases where they could not get their overseas employees, their foreign customers and foreign trainees into the United States.  In June 2004 we published a study calculating that the costs of our policy to US companies operating globally exceeded $30 billion between July 2002 and March 2004.
